The Eternal City Tours presents:
Visit Orvieto, a quaint medieval hill-town situated on high volcanic tufa cliffs overlooking the Tiber river.
Explore the famous Cathedral, with its astonishing 13th century facade by Lorenzo Maitani.
Follow us to the labyrinth of caves and tunnels that lie beneath the surface. Dug deep into the tuff, a volcanic rock, these hidden and secret tunnels are not advised for those who sufffer from claustrophobia.
The tour includes a visit of the worldwide famous St. Patrick Well. Completed in 1537, it is a 62 metres sinking shaft into the tufa at the lowest end of town. His design was unique: He equipped the well with a pair of wide spiral staircases, lit by 72 internal windows, forming a double helix so that mule-drawn carts could descend on one ramp and come back up the other without colliding.
